Pro v Champ

Played a lot of pro this week with a very average snap and clearly as long as the snap misses are not big ones the game is very manageable. Some miss snaps go where you aim anyway and others ( not with long irons or woods) would usually leave a reasonable length putt to hole.
Move to champ with the same average snap and its a whole different game. Miss snap off the T and its quite likely you're in trouble especially if the rough is deep rough. Hitting greens becomes harder as I've just found out missing with 9 irons and PW.

Feels a bit like i've gone back to when I started playing Links. I had a fairly consistent miss snap back then and for a long time I allowed for that snap for aiming left almost knowing I would miss snap late. Now it feels like I'm missing late about 50% of the time. Off the T I allow for it by aiming as far left as I can but with approach shots I have to believe i will hit the snap and suffer the consequences if I don't. I've tried allowing for it by aiming left a few times but sod's law comes in and I miss early for a change.

Does anyone here consistently aim to allow for a miss snap?

Yes Roy, I do also. I aim a little to the right side of fairway as I snap early a lot. But as you do, I don't play for it on the shot to the green.

I just went through a terrible spell of anything but the snap. I think I'm over that... which still leaves terrible putting... a curse I cannot seem to shake.

I usually assume I'll hit the snap and therefore play for wind drift or otherwise away from trouble (ex: aiming right on a dogleg left assuming better to be in the right rough than in the trees of the dogleg).

Once I decided to play Champ, I've not looked back. The initial transition was hard enough. I don't play non-challenging (except when it's mixed like on the DP Tour) as it's too many combinations to remember.

Honestly, I'd like to do some mixed non and challenging on the PLSA Champ... especially Moderate/Fast(Challenging) and Firm/Fast(Challenging). I've only used Firm(C)/Fast(C) in a couple of U. S. Opens as memory serves me.

Never bothered with Pro, always played Champ Powerstroke and take the extra miss that it gives me. My default swing is 1 Open, though I have been hitting a lot more straight swings of late
For me it's all in the hand position and swing tempo, the latter is often difficult to maintain
I play for the challenge it gives me, and don't expect to top man leaderboards :P

I tried PS back in the day ( and RTS) and just could never get any rythym or consistent swing going. Always impressed by all who played it.

I tried RTS. Hit almost 100% fairways, but couldn't get the hang of distances on approaches and putting.

and did you know that IRL, Jack Nicklaus played with his stock shot .....a deliberate power fade - down the left side, just letting it slide left to right !

for Jack to do that, he certainly was doing something that turned out great for his game as we all know thru his career

IRL I played with a power fade as well although for me it was really just a big slice and didn't actually control it. I needed a fairway down the left in case the slice didn't happen
