EGO Launch Failure

I am running windows xp, internet explorer 6.0
when i host or join a game in Match Maker i hit the start button which downloads a file then i click run then the start button comes up again when i hit that i get this messages ...EGO Launch Failed, The direct play game could not be launched: 80070057 failed to start application
things were working until about 2 - 3 weeks ago any suggestions anyone????
