Thx for this post T, along with mine I hear the rapid clicking of 'turn autoupdates on' buttons being pressed :)

i certainly agree sometimes the 'updates' ms wants to pass along are dubious. but it's shooting onesself in the foot not installing the security/stability updates for winders/ie/office. that's why i have updates set to download, and then let me choose the ones to install.

for those who wanna turn ms/office updates off altogether, the neat thing about the technet site, is they tell you when the next scheduled updates will be. so if you'd like, you can just go out to their site on that day, and get the updates manually.
