Links in Vista

I just installed Links on my new Vista machine and it doesn't allow me to go past 1024x768 resolution. With my new monitor it looks a tad fuzzy - certainly not as good as my 1280x1024 on my previous computer. I'm ready to go back to XP if that's the cause. It doesn't even give me the 1280x71024 option in Links, although my desktop is displayed on 1280x1024. I tried running and installing in Windows XP compatible mode. Could it be the video card, or is it Vista?

Wizard you didn't say what video card you had but my guess is it's your card but T will be along soon and shed some light on this little fellow ..........

goto
Control Panel --> Appearance and Personalization--> Personalization --> Display setting --> Advanced
and set the display the way you want it

thanks for that ringing endorsement, sonny, but yours and duncans' guesses are as good as anything i got. i used to have an mx4000 on a vista machine, but links would not display correctly. never fuzzy, just missing 3d objects and losing the flight of the ball, etc.

i replaced the mx4000 with a 6200, now links plays great on the vista machine. i'm not sure if wizard has a plasma or lcd, i've never owned one, nor will i until crt's can no longer be purchased, so i have no experience with fuzzy displays.

Thanks for the help, guys. The bottom line is that I can display my settings at 1280x1024 on the machine, but that option isn't listed in links. On my old XP computer it was, and the video is much clearer. I am a tech coordinator for a school district and my network admin says that my 18 inch LCD wants to display at 1280x1024 and since links is putting it at 1024x768, that is why it is slightly "fuzzy". It's not too bad, but doesn't look as good as my old machine. The new machine is Dell, and we got the cheapest video card that came with it, but we were going to add in a nice one, although that is on backorder and won't come in for a few weeks, so I can't test it. I just wondered if I should wipe the new computer back to XP or if I should wait until the new video card comes out. It sounds like Links works on Vista, so maybe I'll wait. I can play the game, but just wanted it to look as good as my last machine! Thanks.

FYI we are getting a Quadra FX 550 for my new machine. Any known issues with this card? Thanks.

Sorry, the Quadra FX 550 is actually the one I have in there now. (it's early morning and I'm thinking slowly)

My new card will be GeForce 7950 KO super clock - any know issues with THAT one? Thanks!

un- and reinstall links, then the graphic setting should show 800x600, 1024x768 and 1280x1024, 16 and 32 bit. my tft 19" is running perfect at 1280x1024, 32 bit

there is a regedit to force the game to a resolution that does not appear in the game.
i posted it at Links Corner some time ago.

using the value 4 sets it to 1600x1200, i am assuming the value 3 would give you 1280.

yes, value 3 is 1280x1024
