Video Card text file

Ok, I have Links back working (kinda).

Links shows my video card as NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 3gb which is correct but it only allows me a resolution of 1280x960. This seems wrong. Weirder still is that my card is NOT listed in the videocard.txt file yet Links seems to know what it is.

System screen shows 0x10DE, 0x1C02 for my card.

What exact language should I add to the videocard.txt file so that Links will see my card correctly and allow higher resolutions?

Thanks!

Found this at Links Corner:
1. Determine the Device ID for your video adapter in the Dxdiag.txt file.
Windows 7 - Click on Start then click on Run.
Windows 8/10 - Windows Key + R
Type DXDIAG.EXE and click Ok
When DirectX Diagnosis comes up click on Save All Information. That will save a file called dxdiag.txt to your desktop
Exit the DirectX Diagnostic Tool
On your desktop, open the dxdiag.txt file that you just saved
Under the 'Display Devices' section look for the Device ID value for your video card. For example, 0x0102. Write down this value.
Under the same section write down the device name for your card, ie "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280"
2. Add the Device ID for your video card to the videocard.txt file.
Open My Computer
Browse to your Links 2003 folder
Probably C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesLinks 2003 or C:Program Files2k GamesLinks 2003
Open the videocard.txt file.
Locate the following line in the videocard.txt file
Vendor = 0x10de "nVidia"
Move down to the end of the nVidia section.
Create an entry for your video card at the end of the nVidia section as follows but replace the information below with the Device ID and Name of your video card. You can find both in the dxdiag.txt file.
0x05E1 = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280"
DefaultBltNotFlip
NoCopyZInVidMem

Save the videocard.txt file
You're done!

Now to see if it helps any...

I followed the instruction exactly and it made no difference at all.

Back to the drawing board...

Someone else probably knows better but sounds like the solution to your issue is likely the registry thing? You will probably find useful info using the forum search function for "registry" + "resolution".

Somewhere I posted here a few months ago about wanting higher resolution and someone said to use REGEDIT. I was able to get 1920X1080 resolution by changing some of the values in the registry, but swingmeter was so dang small I gave up on it and settled for playing 1280X720.

I've followed these steps for years when I re-install, and have no issues. I also have an Nvidia card. Since the advent of the 1.07 patch and the Nvidia patch, I have not had to go into the registry. If installed correctly, when you go into graphics settings in the game, your monitor's native resolution will show up in the drop down menu.
