Old computer crashed and it was running Windows 8. Got new computer and it is Windows 10. Downloaded the Links 2003 but it won't open. I get an error message that the minimum resolution is below 800X600. I can't get the game to open so that I can get to the options and reset resolution.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

I think if you open windows in Safe Mode you can go in and change the resolution. Not sure thou.

I'm not sure but I think the game will load in safe mode and then you can change the resolution. Been a long time since I've had to install Links on a new machine. You could also try forcing the resolution by changing the setting in the registry. I'm sure someone here can explain how. I'm sure there is a thread somewhere that give you instructions how.

Right click on any free part of your desktop screen, choose the screen resolution tab, click on resolution then scroll to 1024 x 768 and choose it. click apply. Start your golf game, make the necessary changes. Exit game right chick on your desktop again and set the resolution to whatever makes your eyes happy.

The resolution problem I believe is in the Links program and not my monitor. But I cannot get the program to load so I can go in and change it to 32 bit, etc, etc.

Understood, but if you lower your monitor's resolution you will then be able to get inside the game. the game was shipped to you in its native resolution of 800x 600. The lowest resolution windows 10 allows is 1024 x 768, your flat screen monitor's native resolution is 1920 X 1080. That 1920 X 1080 resolution is greek to your links game so it won't open. CHANGE your monitor's resolution and the game WILL open.

Changed monitor's resolution to 3 or 4 of the lowest and still got the same error message each time. I am limited on being tech savvy (which may be quite obvious by now). Can you manually lower the resolution or are you limited to the drop down choices allowed in the display settings?

Have you installed v1.07?
http://linkscorner.org/files/patches/Links_107.zip

Have you installed the nVidia/Win7 patch?
http://www.lspn.net/downloads/Links2k3_nvidia_win7.exe

If these have both been installed properly, you should be able to select the resolution in the game (Options, Graphic Options). While I haven't seen the error message you're getting before, the following steps have resolved the issue where the game reports the video card is too old to run the game:
    1. Click START, type regedit and then click on the REGEDIT program. (click OK when it asks to allow the registry editor to make changes to your computer).

    2. On the left pane, click the > next to the branch called HKEY_CURRENT_USER.

    3. Continue expanding the following branches by clicking on the > next to them:
    Software
    Microsoft
    Microsoft Games
    Links 2003

    4. In the left pane, under the Links 2003 branch, select DisplaySettings.

    5. In the right pane, find the key named Software and ensure it is set to 0. (If it isn't, double-click it and change the value from 1 to 0).

    6. In the right pane, find and double-click the key named Windowed in the right pane and change the value to 0 (if it's already 0, then no need to change it!).

    7. In the right pane, find and double-click the key named Mode in the right pane and change the value to 3.

    8. Close the registry editor and start Links.

The game should start in a window that is at a resolution of 1280x1024. After the game starts, you should be able to adjust the graphic settings to your preference (windowed or not, and resolutions up to 1920x1200).
