hmmmm, there's a cause for everything. i suppose maybe a bad memory stick could cause buffer overruns and apparent corrupted files. is there any chance of swapping dimms/simms around to see if problems migrate?

Well, first I'd recommend you go here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DIMM and here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Single_in- ... ory_module to familiarize yourself with what you're looking for inside your computer, then get an appropriate screwdriver and open up your puter, see what you've got and come back and tell us.

I have to go buy a couple more and put them into my computer, right? If so, I just can't get away at any time I want. I watch my handicapped mother. So I am pretty busy. Is this the only answer do you suppose? Besides don't those cost a whole lot?

I suppose you could order them online and have them delivered if you can't get out of the house. However firstly we're going to try swapping what you currently have in your machine around to see if one (supposing you have more than one) of them is bad.

I'd suggest you open the side of your computer and have a look inside. If nothing else it'll be a learning experience.
