hmmm, now we're getting somewhere. absolutely, positutely yes, v1.05 is a update. it is imperative you install v1.05 to play on the tour. delete any other version you have of it anywhere and redownload/apply it here:

canuck is absolutely correct. before applying the v1.06 mod, we should get you on the main site playing v1.05. don't worry about v1.06 for now.

bingo. freefaller called it on the second page. you have v1.02 installed, but you don't have v1.05 installed. run the v1.05 update from the link i gave you.

now, in your connection settings, what do you have?

Terrell,
Should I delete 1.02? I have installed 1.05 several times.

Jim, plse describe how you go about installing v1.05 (be very specific), based on your post about your version being 1.02 something is not going right

PS No need to delete 1.02, it causes no harm and according to some may be beneficial.

Ok, well at least that's correct which I suspect narrows the issue down to your 1.05 installation problem. Plse advise how you do it.

BTW, instead of retyping our posts when replying (gotta be a nuisance) simply click the quote button in the upper right corner of the post you want to quote. If you want to edit the quote you can at the screen you'll be taken to

I've been coping and pasting mainly.
I got 1.05 from terrell from an earier suggestion.

As far as installing 1.05 , I extract it from the folder, open it and follow any directions about installing it. I really don't think I can go in detail. Once opened you just follow directions.

I finally got 1.5 into the game. I think the problem was when it asked where to put it I was supposed to let it put it in C instead of where I wanted it. The problem is I still can not get onto the game. I get the same message.

When I tried connecting again,I clicked the button at the request of the game and downloaded the server setup , opeded it and opened Links 2003 again and was admitted to the games.
I WOULD LIKE TO THANK ALL OF YOU WHO SO DILIGENTLY ATTEMPTED TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM.

darn. kinda saw that coming though. you originally had the buffer overrun problem caused by links and another program vying for the same location in memory. then you weren't correctly applying v1.05, thus the update problem. so the two problems are not related, the buffer overrun was bound to rear its ugly head again.

terrell wrote:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310560/en-us

buffer overruns are caused when two (or more) programs attempt to access the same area of memory. usually because of poor coding. msconfig allows you to eliminate programs you think might conflict with links. but ya gotta add programs back one at a time, to narrow them down to the offending culprit. actually, i did address the howto back on the first page. the microsoft knowledge base article will tell you howto run msconfig and a clean boot. then you'll hafta play links a few times to see if the buffer overruns disappear. if so, then you'll hafta start adding programs/dlls back in via the startup tab, one at a time until you find the offending culprit.

if that doesn't work, then we'll start talking about howto trim services, but it's not a good idea to do that with msconfig. so don't mess with the services tab within msconfig.

I get into the games fine now, although, once I had to repeat the 1.05 update download and install into the game again . Now I ,once again, can not get into add coruses. without the buffer overrun warning and closing the game automatically. Problem is I just finished playing antelope flats and
tried to play the next round , but the game told me I needed to download Antelope Flats. How does that grab you ?
