The first thing that you should have told us is what OS the new laptop has. I am guessing Windows 10.

Rick has copied the Links folder from the old computer to new so maybe this can work for you.

I tried to reloaded Links 2003 from my external hard drive and the only way it would work was to leave the external hard drive plugged in all the time. I reloading it from the CD's and installed all the patches. Good to go!

I have no idea if this would work, but you could have tried scouring your registry for "Links 2003" entries and replace the path to where you've copied the game directory to. That may be a bit (or a lot!) tedious, so I would have started with changing the keys in this branch:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Links 2003\Paths

If that didn't work, I might have tried a 3rd party software to find/replace the installation path in your registry. Perhaps something like the following shareware:
http://www.dcsoft.com/products/regeditx/

In the end, it was probably just as well to re-install!

MY DELL CRASHED AND BURNED TAKING LINKS 2003 WITH IT. I BOUGHT A HP PAVILION DESKTOP 550-153W TO REPALCE IT. I RELOADED MY OLD 2003 LINKS DISK AND RAN THE UPDATE/PATCH FOR HD, ETC. FROM THE LINKS WEBSITE. THE GRAPHICS IS A MESS AND HAS BREAKS-GAPS IN THE PICTURE. IT JUST WILL NOT RUN, AND THE SORRY GRAPHICS IS NOTHING LIKE THE HD,WHICH I HAD WITH DELL BEFORE. I HAVE WINDOWS 10 NOW. SOMEONE SUGGESTED THAT THE INTEL VIDEO CARD IS AN INTEGRATED INTEL SYSTEM AND IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH LINKS . THE HP PROCESSOR IS A 4TH GEN INTEL CORE i3, WITH 6GB DDR3 MEMORY, BUT NOTHING IN THE DOCS. ABOUT THE VIDEO CARD SPECS. I MISS MY LINKS! HELP ANYONE???

Wow! That power supply wouldn't power any kind of video card needed for HD.
