They keep bugging me to upgrade to windows 10 I have 8.1 now. I want to know if anyone did this and did they have to reinstall links and did everything work ok with windows 10?

I don't know who "they" is, but you don't have to listen to "them". You need to do a search on Windows 10 and Links. Some have had success getting Links to work with Windows 10, and some have not.

There's a procedure to eliminate those pesky 8.1 and Windows 10 notifications. I'll try to find out what I did. I upgraded to Windows 8.1 and it TOTALLY screwed up my Links game.

I think you have to find the update that installs those messages and delete it.

Using GWX Control Panel (formerly GWX Stopper) to Permanently Remove the 'Get Windows 10' Icon
GWX Control Panel (previously named GWX Stopper) is a free program that you can use to do the following on Windows 7 and Windows 8:
Remove the "Get Windows 10" icon that appears in your notification area.
Prevent your Windows Update control panel from upgrading your computer to Windows 10.
Prevent your computer from secretly downloading Windows 10 installation files.
Detect and remove the hidden Windows 10 installation files if they're already on your PC.
Optionally monitor your computer for unwanted Windows 10-related settings and files. (New in version 1.6.)
GWX Control Panel really works, is safe and easy to use, and gives you the option to re-enable the icon and upgrade notifications if you're ever ready to move forward with Windows 10.

NEWS AND HOT TIPS
Just some quick notes before we get to the documentation...

February 2, 2016: You may have heard the news that Microsoft is making good on their promise to push Windows 10 as a "recommended" upgrade to all eligible Windows 7 and Windows 8 users. And in case you were wondering, yes, GWX Control Panel can protect you from this unwanted upgrade.

Follow the directions. It works.

1) type 'regedit' in the search bar
2) click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
3) click on System
4) click on Set Up
5) click on Upgrade Notification
6) change value to '0'
7) apply and reboot

I did this to my Windows 8 and I don't get anymore notifications to upgrade to Windows 8.1 and then I did to my new Windows Home Premium 7 and I don't get any Windows 10 notifications.

This worked for me.

You way of doing it is easy enough Rick. Just be sure you get rid of the hidden W10 install files MS has most likely installed on your pc -three to six gigabytes worth of hidden files.
They very sneakily (if that's the proper wordage) got put in there through the all constant updates MS does -most likely the updates that get installed on your pc when you shut it down.
I know I never reviewed what the updates were done in the past, I would just trust MS was doing the right thing -I review them now though.

Sneaky MS devs  ...almost makes me want to go to an iMac.

Didn't work for me since I don't show a Set Up folder inside the System folder but!
You can go into add/remove programs and look for windows updates and uninstall the Update KB3035583 and do a search for GWX.exe. I found it under users/my user/app data and delete it.
Just remember if you have Windows installing updates on auto it's gonna reinstall it later, you'll need to have Update set to ask b-4 downloading/install updates so you can hide it the next time it tries to download KB3035583. They do say it's a optional update.
Common sense and common courtesy two things this world needs more of.

I removed KB3035583 from windows update, then hid that update when i ran windows update again. Have not been prompted to update for months since doing that. Was easier than playing around in the registry files. It worked for win 7 home and win 7 pro.

I did remove 2 of the updates before updating. One was for Windows 10. I forget the updates but I don't let them update automaticly.

campy1941,

I updated from Win 8.1 to Win 10 without any issue. I didn't have to reinstall or do anything to Links; I just clicked the shortcut and it started just as it did under Win 8.1. I think most people haven't had too many issues, but there are some that had nothing but problems.

I prefer Win10 to Win8.1, but it takes a bit of looking into the privacy settings during setup and/or after setup to check the settings are what you want. I've also had to confirm the settings after updates to the system.

If you decide to upgrade, I hope you don't have any issues either. :)

About 2 weeks ago I too bit the bullet and upgraded from Window 7 to 10. So far the only issue I've had was with Norton Ghost. Links has played just fine after the upgrade. Didn't do anything to Links, it just played. I kind of shot myself in the foot once though by upgrading the nVidia driver. Was able to back it out and after that all has been good.

Good luck
