Graphic Card Issue with New Laptop

Postby IBHackin on Thu Dec 03, 2015 7:56 am

Hi All,
I had a complete failure of my desktop PC a couple weeks back (Motherboard died). So bit the bullet and bought a new laptop. After installing Links on the laptop, I changed the compatibility mode to Win7. Applied the 1.07 patch and nVidia patch. Found the direction on how to update the videocard.txt file with my nVidia GeForce 930m. But when I fire up Links, all it is seeing is the onboard Intel graphics, not my nVidia card. Here is the entry I put in the videocard.txt file:

0x1346 = "GeForce 930M"

What might I be missing?

TIA

just wondering How did you install a new card in laptop? It appears laptop uses Intel onboard card.
Also, some have had problems with new Intel graphics with Links. I know I have, couple years ago my laptop worked fine with Links & Intel but my desktop and Intel not so much, so I put in cheap Nvidia card and works fine.

Do you maybe need to disable the onboard graphics before firing up your new video card?

Ok went and looked and seen YOU can add to laptop LOL!
I'll go with Ricks answer, I'm sure you'll need to go into device manager and see if cards are listed/installed.

Gibby, No the new laptop I got, came with the nVidia graphics card.

I'll look to see if I can do the disabling.

Thanks that just might work.

I was hoping. When I disabled the on board graphic and I rebooted. Then after about 3-5 minutes after it came up it said there was a problem and rebooted itself. This went about 4 time until I re-enabled the on-board.

I wounder if I delete all the other graphics card out the the videocard.txt file except for my nVidea it will force Links to use it?

If you get your laptop to use the dedicated video card in Links, instead of the onboard video chip, you will be the first person that I heard of, who was able to do it. No one, that I know of, has been able to get the laptop to use the dedicated card with Links. They will use the dedicated card for programs, but not for Links.

He typed that into the videocard.txt, I believe. But, running dxdiag, the computer will see it, because the computer will let you use the dedicated card for programs. Just not Links, for some reason. Steve isn't alone with this problem.

Yes I did get the value from running dxdiag.

[censored] Bruce, you just broke my heart.

Well I guess I'll give a round a shot with the on board

Thanks again Gibby. I'll give it a try when I get home. I'm almost to the point where I may just load Win 7 on the laptop and wipe all the delivered garbage that came with it. I find Win 10 very frustrating, no zip/unzip, file are moved to who knows where. With my previous system dead I'll just use the Win 7 DVD I already have. Then at least I'll know where everything is.

If the computer is seeing the card, and your not getting a choice to add it under options in the links game... it does not bode well for success. adding to the videotxt file will eliminate the this card does not meet minimum specs message and helps with slow motion play with some radeon cards but that's about it.
