Having some graphics problem after running the Nvidia patch. If I remember right, do I have to enter my card into a file using notepad?

I have a Asus GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4 GB Phoenix Video Card and I had to create an entry in the Videocard.txt file for it using notepad. These are the instructions I followed. I'll be back in a little while, so if you have any questions/problems with this, leave a msg for me here.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

While playing Links 2003 some people with certain ATI graphics cards have experienced problems with the game acting as if it's in slow motion. Graphics cards known to exhibit this problem include older ATI Radeons.

The solution is to add your video card to the Links videocard.txt file. Here's how:

1. Determine the Device ID for your video adapter in the Dxdiag.txt file.

Click on Start
Click on Run
Type DXDIAG.EXE and click Ok
When DirectX Diagnosis comes up click on Save All Information. That will save a file called dxdiag.txt to your desktop
Exit the DirectX Diagnostic Tool
On your desktop, open the dxdiag.txt file that you just saved
Under the 'Display Devices' section look for the Device ID value for your video card. For example, 0x5656. Write down this value.

2. Add the Device ID for your video card to the videocard.txt file.

Open My Computer
Browse to your Links 2003 folder
? Probably C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Links 2003 or C:\Program Files\2k Games\Links 2003
Open the videocard.txt file.
Locate the following line in the videocard.txt file
? Vendor = 0x1002 "ATI".
Move down to the end of the ATI section. The last entry is:

0x5656 = "Mach 64"
BrokenAlphaTest
TextureOffset

Create an entry for your video card at the end of the ATI section as follows but replace the information below with the Device ID and Name of your video card. You can find both in the dxdiag.txt file.

0x5654 = "Mach 64"
NoCopyZinVidMem

Save the videocard.txt file

In case this helps:

Videocard.txt file
----------------------
Vendor = 0x10b4 "nVidia" - (1st 5 items in the nVidia group)
Vendor = 0x12d2 "nVidia"
Vendor = 0x10de "nVidia"
Vendor = 0x1022 "nVidia"
0x1b1d = "Riva 128"
RenderEqualZ
-
-
-
0x0181 = "GeForce4 MX Integrated GPU A" - (last item in the nVidia group)
RenderEqualZ
0x1C82 = "GeForce 1050 Ti" - (only line I added. "0x1C82" came from my Dxdialog.)

Good luck!

Thanks again Pete. I put my card in but didn't change anything that I noticed. I have some small problems but is playable. When I click on the swing meter to change for a different club or to alter the shot up or back, part of the meter disappears. I can tell what is being selected but would like to get that fixed. Don't know what else I can do. I was also getting some of the golfer disappear after I swung but seemed to have fixed that by changing the resolution. I will have to double check everything when I switch over to my better monitor. Have the new rig over to my left with my second monitor. Don't think it will make any difference.

I would be changing drivers not resolution. That said i am an ATI guy haven't had an Nvidia card since the 90ies.

I tried to run the program at first and no luck. I then notice when I went into my card program that there was a new driver update and downloaded it. Didn't do much good. Funny, I'm running just an onboard graphics on this machine and everything is perfect. With my other Dungeon game the graphics are so much better with the new card. Sometimes old and simple is better... :roll:

Another minus for me is that the new card makes the greens a lot lighter in color and hard to see the step... oh well

I have an RTX 4040, 27" monitor with a native resolution of 1920x1080, which is the resolution I use in the game(32 bit).
W11.
I put the Nvidia patch in the main links directory and double click it. I've never had to mess with the videocard.txt file, nor gone into the registry.
I always use the latest drivers from Nvidia.

I had to do a re-install in May when I got my new Dell.

Once you get it going, you can use the Nvidia control panel to adjust color and whatnot.

FWIW.
