Just reloaded 2000 version is there help out there

hello,
Brother and I used to play 2000 over the modem all the time, we recently reloaded and tried to play a IP game intead of modem. Could not connect. Any help?
Tried 2001 but couldn't figure out putting and swing meter was more difficult than 2000.
