can links 2001 be run online in Vista?

Postby garfran on Fri Sep 26, 2008 5:09 pm

Wondering if anyone can help me to run Links 2001 online on my notebook computer with Windows Vista Home Premium operating system.

Following on from Terrel's comments, I was able to extract the 1.22 exe file and run cepatch.exe. My version of links 2001 is now 1.22, but I still cannot access online play.

"by terrell on Mon Sep 22, 2008 2:26 pmya might start a new thread in the 2001 tech forum so we don't bogart confractus' poll. i know nothing about 2k1, but i might be able to walk you through extracting the file you need.

looks like if you download 2001v122.exe and run it, you get three files, one being cepatch.exe (assuming you have links 2001 championship edition), which you need to run. is that where it's going south on you, or derailing somewhere before that?

caveat: i've disabled user control and automatically login as administrator on my vista notebook. i'm not quite sure what roadblocks you run into if you're not logging in as an administrator."

I was hoping to get more substantial info than what Freefaller provided. Currently my version of Links 2001 appears as 1.22. When I try to run Online play I get error message "Server Error. 0 Code. 15." I appreciate that Links 2001 is now unfassionable, but hoping that there is someone out there who may be able to give me practicle assistance. Thank you.

i thought free's advice was very substantial. i clicked on help at the top o' the page, and there is a 2k1 patch:

http://lspn.net/server_switch/LSPN_MAIN_L2K1.exe

what happened when you ran it?

personally, something in my dna i guess, i like to manually edit the registry. the patch above probably points the server value to http://www.lspn.net:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Links 2003\LinksTour

either way, i think you'll be clicking in no time. (8

Sorry I did not know what freefaller was talking about. Fool me I thought he meant to somehow run the patch at top of help page in links 2001. Now it twigged that the "help" he meant is in this web page. Thanks for all the help. I will have a go at it next time I am using my notebook.
