Thanks. I have a one year old dell pc that came with a NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE video. the Links 2001 Championship Edition works with this video card and Links 2003 which i prefer does not work. My old pc had a NVIDIA video card and Links 2003 worked with it.

I am still chugging away with an NVidia 5950 Ultra, with the 93.71 drivers. It works for both 2k1 and 2k3. Terrel is always good at keeping us informed of new driver versions as they appear and in my experience some work and some don't with my card. Symptoms of 'not working' vary from tearing/slow refresh/poor colour rendering right up to no graphics at all - audio usually ok so in the worst case its like playing Midnight GC, on a very cloudy night with my eyes closed and a bag over my head!

The upshot is try some earlier/later drivers.

What happens if you select the software rendering option and bypass your card?

Hope this might help :)

soundz like the reason 2k1 works and 2k3 doesn't, is because 2k1 allows software rendering, where 2k3 requires hardware 3d rendering through the graphics card. the first thing i would look at is run dxdiag (directx configuration tool), click on the display tab, and ensure 3d acceleration is enabled.

then i would goto forums.guru3d.com and look at the sticky in the nvidia graphics driver forum about howto properly uninstall/install your graphics card driver. there's also a blurb in there somewhere about howto choose the correct driver for your particular card (i never pay any attention to that).

i don't think it's likely you need to enter the 6150 le device id into the videocard.txt, but it can't hurt. if you open the videocard.txt, it's pretty straightforward what you need to put in there.

Your card should work just fine wth Links 2003. What drivers are you running? Did you get them from Dell's site?

video card

Postby coafbob on Thu Nov 29, 2007 11:20 am

I believe they came with dell PC last Novemebr. Belarc analysis shows NVIDIA Driver Helper Service Version 93.71 Version 6.14.10.9371. When I start links 2003 with this driver I get a black screen and need to alt, control delete to back out of it. On my old PC I had a NVIDIA video card GEFORCE 2 (MX200). Links 2003 worked fine with it. Do you think the driver for that card could be downloaded to work with my NVIDIA 6150 LE. Looks like i have the 93.71 driver Jeff hasc and seems to work for him. thanks for your help.

Many apologies Bob, you can choose software rendering in 2k1, but 2k3 requires a graphics card and so you don't have the option ... my bad ... and sorry again :(

Another thought ... what screen resolution are you set at? You might try reducing the res and see what happens?

Thank you Jeff. Your second thought solved my problem. I set resoltion lower to 1280X720 and now when Links 2003 starts I see 3d acceleration by NVIDIA 6150 message and I go into the game. It works. I can play the game!!!I was wondering what your resolution is set at and I will adjust mine also. But Thank you again Jeff.

Am currently having to play on a crappy old 15 inch monitor which must be at least 7 years old so the best res I can manage is 1024 x 768 pix.

Glad it worked and that you're up and running again.

Enjoy :)

aaaccckkk! i forgot the 1st basic rule of troubleshooting links if you can't get it to start. try starting links with links 2003 safe mode, which starts links with its most basic graphics settings.
