Those explanations are informative, but I was under the impression that the majority of players at LSPN are not interested in MOD play. Isn't OWGC the place where MOD is played?

Yes MOD is played exclusively there but the 2 tours only conduct one tourney per week, generally Thursday thru Monday morning and no ammy. If you miss the cut on Saturday you only get to play 2 rounds. When not playing there, I come here for more tournaments available in all swing methods and versions. I also play at Offline APCD Tours and WireLS which are both MOD exclusive.

It is my understanding that 1.07 has nothing to do with Mod play. I think 1.07 incorporates both 1.05 and 1.06 green speeds, but the conditions are at the desecration of the tournament provider. I also think Mark has said that he will not use 1.06 green speeds in the official LSPN events except when listed as Mod conditions. I think most people consider 1.07 as the return of the multiplayer function.

pppfffttt! shows how much i know. i thought 'desecration' was spot on. preferring to play mod over v1.05, i'm afraid the mixture of v1.05 and v1.06 conditions are going to obsolete me. i'd prefer v1.07 was used for match play if necessary, but i'd like to keep v1.06 intact.

"T" you will never be obsolete. You have already proven yourself to be very inquisitive and helpful about all technical and non technical issues surrounding our hobby of links. So to your comment I say ... pfffttt

just a question about v 1.07.... It seemed to me that the 1.06 greens were unreceptive, in a chllenging but unrealistic way, to shots into the green. Will the Firm.06/Fast.06 dynamics of 1.07 be any different? And, if we use Soft.05/Fast.06 are we in danger of spinning every ball off the green??

Correct. v1.07 was a way to bring the two versions back together into one game. I'm still going to use the same conditions for PLSA events, however, I'll probably have to add tours that use the new conditions for MOD players. I'm sure it will take a little time for everyone to acclimate.

Firm/Fast v1.06 conditions match those of Firm (MOD)/Fast (MOD) in v1.07. If you mix the conditions, they actually mix pretty well but it will take a little experimentation on your part to see how it plays.

I don't plan on mixing conditions in official events though.

aha! great news. however, i realize keeping the conditions separate means more (unnecessary?) work for mark. but i wasn't looking forward to being forced to play v1.05 conditions (50 percent of the time). like lw has said, sit down, shut up, and play the conditions you're given. i probably would have. i just don't have to like it. and if i have an opinion about something...

Are you sure they match? When I play 0.07 beta at OWGT the Firm(Mod) Fast(Mod) do NOT match 1.06 MOD speeds as found playing here or anywhere else that uses the 1.06 MOD. They run about 25% faster, i.e. a 20 foot putt in 1.06 Firm Fast will go about 25 feet in 0.07 Firm Fast. Probably not significant to most players at short distances but when you are 40 feet away and you run it by the hole 12'-15' it matters on the return putt. Likewise the Firm Medium and Moderate Fast conditions are quicker at 10% faster. All other conditions putt the same speed. I have tested this thouroughly at The Complex on the dead flat greens using Mod 1.06 and 0.07 beta. I have created distance charts for all three versions of 1.05, 1.06 and 0.07 for all 6 current green conditions because going back and forth between all three is a chore to my aging brain to remember how far a 4 dot putt goes. Mixing and matching Mod and 1.05 will be mind boggling since 36 different combinations are possible. I wont even go into the ever confusing Course Conditions setup in 0.07.

So which will we get when 1.07 comes out? The current MOD 1.06 setup or the 0.07 beta speeds?
