week 13 under the radar

this week's under the radar event at both pro and champ is at the Balmoral Seaside Hotel and Golf Links, a fictional 6423yd par 70 set on the scottish coast, designed by Noah Neumann, and released in feb '07. a nicely eccentric course of the traditional links variety, balmoral may be short, but poses some interesting problems. a windy bad weather day would certainly have been normal (and probably the way the designer would like it), but we were lucky on these two days. (the hotel in the background is actually the real world balmoral hotel in edinburgh, imported into the model.)

most of the greens are fairly large, are only moderately sloped, and have a good number of well placed reveted bunkers guarding them. while the course has the sort of yardage common to the old traditional links, there are a few pretty long holes, including a 699 yard par 5. the fairways are mostly generous, but the rough is absolutely no joke. good luck. lw
