Ernie,
If par for both course's was the same I'd agree to keep both. However players can play both the par 70 and the 72 course (as I understand the original post and the scoring problem) then a scoring discrepancy of 2 strokes will exist for some players every round.
Example: One version is a par 70 course and the other version is a 72. If I shot a 59 on the par 72 course and another player shot 59 on the par 70 course, I would actually be at a disadvantage by two strokes each round to those shooting on the par 70 course. I would actually have shot a lower score by two. Giving away 8 strokes in a tournament before even starting is not fun or fair.
Another win/win solution is to require all players to play the same course. Use one or the other, not both at the same time. Do not allow the par 70 course to be played at the same time the par 72 course is played and vise versa. That will eliminate any and all scoring problem between the two course's.
If I have to buy the course again for 3.99 to get both the par 70 and 72 versions no big deal.
