Sony Open (Waialae Country Club 2019 v2)

I shouldn't give this hint... it cost me a triple on #10. I decided to go with a 3-metal to try to keep it in the fairway. It had enough loft to whack this palm. I think a driver played back a couple of click in the stance will get under it. But beware!

Blessed are those who help to reduce my blood pressure. As my son would say, this overhang seems kind of "sketchy". I would not have pictured it taking out my dimples. Long live Trajectory - keep 'er low and let 'er go!

That's interesting---I guess I had always played "drive and gouge" on that hole. I don't think you have to deloft the driver to get under the palm (but that's what practice mode is for). Based on some experiments, you can use 3-wood if you move the ball to the left edge of the teeing ground, but don't be late on the snap. Safer would be to aim left and use fade.

Agreed fade it from the left. One of the very very few times I would use a fade or draw.

woe is me in Round #2. Couldn't shape anything. One highlight though. 5-metal eagle on #13... on Friday the 13th. Good thing it hit the pin square.

Well so far on this course I have hit 3 trees that I thought were not in my ball flight. Don't think this tourney will be on my plans in the future. But we all are in the same boat so stop complaining self.

Gosh, pounded my drive down the middle on hole 2 with just an 8 iron left. Looked clear and bam, hit a tree. What the *_ll. Then I have had 2 drives on 18 just hook left off the tee in different rounds. I move to the right side of the tee box, the wind was blowing left to right and hit my snap just a hair early. Certainly not enough to hook that much. I tried several drives after in practice and hit the same snap and the ball always stayed in the fairway. That hole has got my number for sure.

Just played 2 rounds here in Ruler Of Rough. No problems with the trees but there again its amateur but couldn't putt   Missed 4 putts on under 10 feet and I think 3 of them were only 5 or 6 feet. Absolutely clueless

Two holes ruined what would have been a nice -10 in Round #4. I'm glad Kapalua Plantation and Waialae are out of the way.

From a APCD perspective, some of those palms are supposed to be 3 footers that the author has poured Miracle-Gro on to make them 25 feet high.

I believe this course must have the stickiest sand in all of golf. On three or four occasions in those final two rounds, hitting out of the rough on the approach, the ball of course goes racing across the green at warp speed but somehow manages to stop on a steep upslope in the face of the bunker :D

Fortunately, I guessed correctly enough on the sand shots to get up and down most of the time.

What might have been in Round 4---somehow birdied #1 but only parred the two par 5's.

Cheers,

Ronnie

Round 4 was tough on me. I played fair at best.
I could not get the ball close, an the long putts were to tough for me.
This RTS is really tough because you have no putting meter. Just a hope an
a prayer on longer putts.

Doug :) :) :)
