How come Microsoft never went forward with Links 2003? Also, since copyright protection is only for 17 years, did anyone renew it?

They did with the x-box version(Links2004), then sold it. TruGolf who are a spinoff of the original Access Software team re-aquired the rights to links in 2021 and released it as Links E6 on Steam.

Don't bother trying Links E6 on Steam. It is a pile of #&*%$^#&$#(.
