I have noticed over the last couple of months that, on the majority of courses that I've played, hole #17 is a par 3. This is not just fictional courses either. Harbour Town, Pebble Beach, and Sawgrass come to mind. Is this a law or a recommendation from the USGA? Just an observation.
Not sure why it seems that way. But I prefer one of the last two holes to be a par five. Things can happen on any holes regardless of the par, but the par fives seem to offer a greater chance to gain or lose strokes.
