One key to shooting low scores is to be sure to birdie or even eagle the par 5's. The key to shooting scores like mine is to balance that out by bogeying plenty of par 3's and 4's.

For me, hitting the FWs is the key. But when I try to do that, the course designer seems always have put Sand or Deep Grass in the way of my fine effoprts. :?

Q: Golf tip ? A: Course Management.
Concentrate on hitting 100% fairways, 100% greens. The birdies will come ! 8)

Peter Alliss agrees. He often says "it's always been fairways and greens" and when he asks his co-commentators if that's still the case, they agree! As he says in this article:

People forget that, if you hit every fairway and every green, reach every hole in one or two shots, you can have 36 putts and go round in 68. Add it up if you don’t believe me. So why is it that, these days, if you don’t average 29 putts per round you can’t make a living. If Ben Hogan had averaged 29 putts for every 18 holes, he would never have shot over 65 in his life.

As with some others who have mentioned it here, my problem also is actually doing it. :? And Alliss is talking about IRL golf of course. Playing the Links 2003 computerised version sets the bar a lot higher, in order to compete effectively.
Pobody's nerfect.
