I have never found Riviera an easy course to score well on, so approaching the first round f/f I was very wary. After a good start 3 under after 5 and I had two serious scrambles for pars but got them and then onto 8.

Pushed the T shot into rough under a tree, hacked it to a terrible heavy rough lie 27 yards from the green, chiiped ip and watched it roll off down a slope the other side into more heavy rough and I thought there goes that good start

Then the gods took pity and I chipped in for par when I was accepting a double. Next hole hit the fway and holed out for an eagle with a 4 iron  Does anyone out there still have a 4 iron in the bag? And for probably the first time I can ever remember hit a snap on the reachable par4 and got a second eagle in a row. From expecting 1 under after 8 I was suddenly 7 under after 10!

Happy days. Good to be lucky.

Now onto the scary slopes of Mauna Kea
