A playoff idea I sent to the PGA Tour

They'll ignore it, but it's worth a try. See what you guys think... and thing about this. Scottie Scheffler has 7,455.967 FedEx Points. Second place is Rory McIlroy with 3,686.995. And yet, Scottie Scheffler may not win the FedEx Cup.

My letter...

TWIMC,

I agree that the 10 stroke advantage years were bad. But this year is worse. When a player has an unassailable lead going into The Tour Championship and may still lose the Cup, something is wrong.

It would only require a small tweak to make this fair. You could do it exactly as you are this year, but all three season ending tournaments would be combined.

Think about it. It’s true that the team with the best record in baseball may still not win the world series, but they do have to win the division and league series to get to the World Series. Then, they still must win 4/7 in the Series. How stupid would it be for the two teams who get to the World Series to have it decided by one game?

So, here’s the solution. At the FedEx St Jude, you start with the top 70. Continue to use FedEx Cup points to eliminate from 70, down to 50 and then down to 30 with the BMW. But, starting with the FedEx St. Jude, it would be a 216 hole playoff in the three tournaments with the scores carrying over for those not eliminated in the FedEx St Jude and the BMW.
The winner would be the guy in the final 30 with the lowest score over the 216 holes of the FedEx St Jude, BMW and The Tour Championship.

If you’ll do this, you can thank me later.

Respectfully,
